Having Trouble Finding Different
Chicken Coop Plans?
Hi
everyone! I’ve created this site as a helper to anyone
interested in building their own chicken coop.
I have tried to build a chicken coop without success before,
so I know all the pitfalls and I want to share them with
you!
The important thing to know is you don’t need to be an
engineer, carpenter or a builder to build a complete chicken
coop at a low cost. You can do it on your own and have fun plus
get great results.

Building a chicken coop can take planning and time, but if
you know where to look and what supplies to buy it will be
easier than you think!
First, take a minute to answer these key questions and save
hours of time:
- Take a look at your space. What size and
shape of chicken coop do you want?
- How many chickens do you plan to
have?
- What are the surroundings of your are
from a potential predator standpoint?
- What is my
budget?
Here are some of the best reasons to build a chicken coop
yourself:
- Building a chicken coop can be fun for you and
your family.
- Taking care of chickens can be rewarding, in
terms of having fun and the benefits of fresh eggs
daily!
I was excited to start building my chicken coop, and start
reaping the benefits. But, here's where I ran into
problems:
- My first chicken coop turned out poorly and
ended up costing more because I had to begin over again
twice.
- I didn’t have a good plan in place, and I ran
to the hardware store for new materials as they came
up.
- This ended up costing me hundreds of
dollars.
- The design was bad and my chickens had bad
ventilation and were vulnerable to predators.
Here are some words of advice so you can avoid problems!
- It is so important to have picked a good
chicken coop design before you get
started.
- Stick to your design! This way the
chicken coop will be finished on time and within your
budget you have set.
When I started out, I didn’t have a clue about what I
needed. I wasted a lot of materials and money and did not end
up with a chicken coop that had the right size and space for my
chickens. By my third try I finally got it right. I used
the following questions to outline my plan:
What is my budget?
I wanted to build a chicken coop that fit my budget. I found
that most of the wood, wire, hardware and a heater and vents
could be found at a discount hardware store, or sourced from
recycle material centers. I saved tons of money by using
recycled materials.
What size and shape of chicken coop do you
want?
I wanted a chicken coop that was functional but also looked
great and integrated in with my backyard. Chickens need space
to move around for exercise, and should not be cramped or
territorial tussles will break out.
